About Traditional Foil Stamping
Traditional foil stamping uses heat, pressure, and metallic foil to create elegant, high-impact designs. Unlike digital foil which is applied inline during printing, traditional foil uses engraved metal dies that are heated and pressed against the substrate with foil film between them.
This circular coaster showcases gold foil applied directly to uncoated coaster board, with a clean die-cut circular finish. The combination of metallic foil and die-cutting creates a premium promotional product perfect for special events and branded merchandise.
Best Practices
- Design for the process: Traditional foil works best with bold, solid shapes. Fine lines and small text may not transfer cleanly.
- Consider substrate texture: Smooth, dense substrates like coaster board accept foil more evenly than textured or fibrous papers.
- Minimum coverage: Foil areas should be at least 1/16" (1.5mm) wide for reliable transfer.
- Plan die-cutting: Coordinate foil placement with die-cut edges - avoid foil crossing cut lines where possible.
